Physical Appearance
Cockatoos have a unique beak. Their beak is bent. Beside their beak is unique, their feet are unique too. Two toes point forward and two toes point back. That type of feet makes them terrific climber. Having the ability to climb is a necessity for birds that live and nest in thick forests. It’s hard to fly through dense, leafy branches, and even tougher to get to the fruit or nuts that are their primary foods, but because cockatoos can climb through tree branches so well, they can easily get to the treats they want. Cockatoos have 3 type colors of fur, white, pink, and black.
You can see the different of male and female cockatoo through their physical appearance. Male cockatoos have deep black eyes, while the female cockatoos have black eyes circled with reddish color, and male cockatoos have a bigger beak than female cockatoo.
Cockatoos live in Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, and the Philippines. They utilize rain forest, scrublands, eucalyptus grove, forest, mangrove, and open country.
Diet
Cockatoos eat fruit, vegetable, or seeds, but the most favorite one is fruit. Fruit contains multivitamins. In addition, fruit can keep fur beautiful.
Behavior
Cockatoos live in pairs in small until big group. The behavior of male when they approaching mating is they open their wings and they will raise their crest. The male cockatoos do that movement to attract the female cockatoo.
Life Cycle
The male cockatoo puts on an elaborate show to attract a female. After breeding, the cockatoo pair leaves their group to find a good nesting spot. They make their nest in a large tree hole, 16 to 100 feet above ground. The female lays two or three eggs, and both parents take turns sitting on them, turning them and keeping them moist during the incubation period. The eggs hatch in about 30 days. The cockatoo chicks try out their flying abilities when they are about 4 months old. Cockatoos live for an average of 40 to 60 years.
